I am so thrilled at your interest in starting a book blog/group! I think it will be an enjoyable experience for us all, and maybe more so for those who live in Sacramento since we will easily be able to attend "meetings," otherwise known as wine nights...
I digress...
I know not everyone has responded yet, however most of you are aware of my patience deficiency, and therefore understand why I am already on my second post just hours after my initial email. That said, we can get everyone up to date easily. I thought it would be a good time to discuss the more logistical aspects of a book blog, such as how we will choose books, at what times will we post, what will be post about, etc. As far as I'm concerned, I think we should post whenever something provokes us, whether it be while reading or a thought that pops into your head the next day. I think this should be a forum of not just interpretations of a book, but of any ideas or insights we glean from the reading itself. Maybe a passage led you to think about an old friend you've not talked to in years and inspired you to get into contact with them. Or perhaps a lesson learned by a character is a lesson learned by you? Tell us about it (if you like:). Moreover, what one member finds appealing, another may despise, and why not spend those 30 minutes (or two hours) you'd spend on facebook getting into a blogging "discussion of opposing ideas"? And lastly, post about a new restaurant you tried, a cool website, or interesting blog. They're are no rules...
Now, to decide on a book. That's daunting, right? I can think of a few ways to make those decisions. We could choose a genre and take turns picking a book within it. We could also each submit a book idea, and have it randomly chosen using one of the nifty online calculators. What about you? Comment and let me know your thoughts on this as well as everything else.
xoxo Christine

Hello everyone!
ReplyDeleteThanks for organizing this! I think a great way to pick books is to have each member take turns picking 3 books that we, as a group, vote on. OR just let each person take a turn to pick a book. I think one of the great things about a book club is to read things that maybe you normally wouldn't pick. We should also pick out a timeline - how often will we read a new book? Once a month? Once every 2? Finally, are there any guidelines? Do we want to be reading 800 page books or should we keep it around 300? Just some ideas! Thoughts?
